At AMOpportunities, we want to do more than just connect you to a clinical experience. We want to connect with you, which is why we have a team of AMO Advisors and Coaches. These individuals can help you whether you are just beginning to consider a clinical experience or you are planning for one you have already reserved.
In the past, we have introduced our AMO Advisors, but now we want to bring the spotlight to our AMO Coaches, who play a pivotal role in providing support to visitors at the enrollment stage and while they are rotating. One of our two amazing AMO Coaches, Wanh, is relatively new to the team. As such, we think it’s time for a proper introduction!
Wanh graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Neuroscience and Human Biology. Initially, he was on the pre-med track but developed a passion for education through his extracurricular activities. After college, Wanh spent one year as a medical scribe and, while he loved working there, he decided to focus on his long-term career goals. This shift brought him to AMO.
Wanh enjoys cooking, watching TV and YouTube, listening to music, and trying new food outside of work. He is an avid supporter of all MSU and Detroit-based sports teams. In the coming years, Wanh hopes to get more stamps in his passport. The next place he hopes to travel to is Italy.
Learn more about AMO Coach Wanh—including his secret talents and why he loves working with AMO—below!
Q: What did you have for breakfast this morning?
A: I had a raspberry fig bar. It was pretty good – I’d definitely recommend it.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents? If so, what are they?
A: Actually, I have a few. I can play the clarinet, I used to make fireworks as a kid, and I’m pretty good at basketball. Oh, and I’m a better dancer than you’d expect
Q: Would you rather be able to freeze time or travel in time?
A: Travel in time! As an AMO Coach, I’m busy —I would help way more medical trainees with this power.
Q: What movie or tv show do you identify with most and why?
A: I’m not sure if I identify with it fully, but The Fault in our Stars is one film that’s impacted my life. It came out when a schoolmate of mine was battling cancer, which piqued my interest in medicine.
Q: If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be? Explain.
A: I would want to become an expert in medicine or know how to treat cancer. I would be able to save lives and give back to others.
Q: If you had your own late–night talk show, who would you invite as your first guest?
A: I am a big John Mayer fan, so I would send him the invite.
Q: If you could be immortal, what age would you choose to stop aging at and why?
A: 21. At that age, I would still be young but old enough to do certain things under the law.
Q: Are you more of a cat person or a dog person—both are not an answer?
A: I’m definitely a dog person!
Q: What was your most irrational fear as a child?
A: Probably the dark. This fear might have stemmed from a fear of ghosts. I also had a fear of heights.
Q: What do you love most about working as an AMO Coach?
A: I enjoy working for a company involved with both the education and health care sectors. As an AMO Coach, I get to meet visitors and learn about their educational journey, which can be interesting.
