Completing a clinical experience in the U.S. through AMO can help you build your clinical knowledge and skills, earn a letter of recommendation, and fulfill school credits. It can also help you to learn about healthcare in the U.S., which can be complex and vastly different than that in your home country. Ana, a dentistry graduate from Georgia, found out just how different healthcare in the U.S. is during an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinical experience. For details on her clinical experience with Dr. H in a suburb of Chicago, continue reading below.
Worth the Work
First, I want to thank AMOpportunities for giving so many people around the world the chance to gain experience and knowledge in the United States, it is truly wonderful. I would like to point out that it was not easy for me to come here, being from a small country. But with help from AMO and my coach, it was possible.
I’m so happy and proud to have rotated with Dr. H, my precepting physician, for a whole month. Dr. H. was amazingly kind, smart, caring, and funny. Every day was long. And while some were difficult, they were all amazing. This experience really made an impression on me. Comparing medical education in Georgia to the U.S. is difficult. The styles are radically different. I learned about and saw so many new things during my clinical experience.
I am thrilled to have had the chance to participate in this experience. It was difficult to say goodbye to Dr. H. and his team. It was very emotional for me. I hope that in the future, I will be able to participate in another clinical experience through AMO to gain even more knowledge!
