With the city of Chicago is under a shelter-in-place order, the AMOpportunities team is missing the city’s deep-dish pizza and watching the Bulls. To get through this time, we are living vicariously through stories from our Chicago visitors.

Omar, a medical student from Bahrain, completed a clinical experience in Chicago a few months ago. We love how he threw himself into his clinical experience and celebrated Chicago’s culture. Continue reading below for details on which medical specialty Omar selected and which Chicago-famous foods he chowed down on at the end of his busy days!

Chicago, You Have A Pizza My Heart

In January 2020, I completed a clinical elective in family medicine, a medical specialty that I love. AMOpportunities helped me to find a great experience in Chicago.

I would like to start by thanking my supervisor, Dr. S, for her kindness. She was accommodating, and I learned a lot from her. During my experience, I learned one of the best things about family medicine, which is that you can work with patients from different backgrounds and cultures every day.

Outside of my rotation, I spent time exploring Chicago. The city was great! I enjoyed my time watching the Chicago Bulls play at the United Center. Visiting Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate was wonderful as well. Despite how great everything was, my favorite part of Chicago is its food. I loved the deep-dish pizza and delicious burgers. I cannot imagine a better experience in this beautiful city.

Are you craving a slice of deep-dish pizza? Apply for the rotation Omar completed for your chance to experience Chicago’s unique culture.
