A Match story represents so many countless hours of studying, learning, rotating, and applying. Whether it was one rotation or ten, we know our visitors’ time with AMO may only be a small part of their medical education journey. That’s why we are always so excited when past visitors reach out to share their Match stories with us and the role their AMO rotation played in helping them get there.

Samuele, an AMO visitor from Italy, recently matched into a residency program in Neurology. He recently shared his story with us and how the exposure and knowledge gained during his rotation helped strengthen his candidacy.

Samuele’s Story

I feel extremely grateful to all the people who supported me throughout this journey, especially my great mentors. Among them, a special mention goes to Dr. I., who welcomed me to his Movement Disorders center in Boca Raton last May.

During the four weeks that I had the chance to work with Dr. I, I was able to gain more knowledge and practical experience than in two prior rotations at an academic hospital. Daily interactions with patients offered a perfect balance between autonomy and supervision, with prompt feedback on history taking, performing the neuro exam, and updating the EMR. Several didactic sessions were part of a normal week in Boca Raton, often when Dr. Isaacson was offering online lectures and grand rounds throughout the nation, and remarkable research opportunities were also available. I would like to share my gratitude towards AMOpportunities for making this awesome experience possible, without which I arguably wouldn’t have matched into such a prestigious program.
