This May, we gave three future healthcare professionals from around the globe the chance to win a free clinical rotation in the U.S. They shared what inspired them to pursue medicine, the specialties they’re passionate about, and why an AMO rotation could help them take the next step!

Meet Giovanna: Expanding Medical Perspective Abroad

Giovanna sees medicine as a global practice shaped by culture, collaboration, and innovation, and believes that a clinical experience abroad is an essential step toward becoming a well-rounded physician. “I consider it extremely important to have experiences abroad,” she shared. “Not only to build a strong résumé that can help me pursue a medical residency, but also to gain exposure to medicine in a different cultural context, with access to advanced technologies and innovative healthcare systems.”

Originally from Brazil, Giovanna is eager to see firsthand how medicine is practiced in the United States. She looks forward to observing how multidisciplinary teams collaborate and how evidence-based care is applied in real time. She also looks forward to interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds, an experience she believes will strengthen her communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and clinical reasoning, all while expanding her overall clinical perspective.

Meet Farouk: Turning Personal Loss into a Promise to Serve

Farouk, a medical student from the United Arab Emirates, has a medical journey shaped by personal loss. “In 2022, I lost my father to COVID-19,” he shared. “That experience was devastating, but it became a powerful motivator. I made a promise to work harder, push further, and dedicate my life to helping others.”

Pursuing an AMO rotation is an important step in fulfilling that commitment. Farouk is eager to apply what he has learned in a real-world setting, gain hands-on experience, and observe U.S. physicians in action. “Learning in a diverse and challenging environment will enhance my clinical reasoning, communication skills, and cultural competence,” he said.

What draws him to AMO is the opportunity to experience a new healthcare system and care for patients from a wide range of backgrounds. He expressed “this is not just a rotation, it is a step toward becoming the kind of doctor who honors my father’s memory.”

Meet Andres: Driven by Compassion and Commitment

For Andres, medicine is a calling rooted in service, excellence, and empathy. After graduating from Universidad del Valle in Bolivia in 2024, he spent time working in rural, under-resourced communities, an experience that left a lasting impact on him.“The lack of medications, infrastructure, and healthcare personnel challenged me to be creative, resourceful, and deeply human in my approach,” he shared. “It motivated me to seek further knowledge and training so I can care for patients in every sense.”

Andres sees his AMO rotation as a vital opportunity. “This experience will help me grow as a physician who delivers high-quality, patient-centered care,” he said. With solid clinical skills and a strong commitment to learning, He is ready to take the next step in a career driven by service and making a meaningful impact.
