FAMILY MEDICINE

These new family medicine clinical experiences provide exposure to clinical skills such as medical histories and physical exams as they relate to preventative care. Medical trainees will become familiar with administering immunizations, providing primary care, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting lab tests and screenings, giving vision/hearing tests. Trainees will also learn about women’s health, family planning, prenatal services, and nutrition.

  1. Family Medicine at Specialty Care Clinic near Washington, D.C.
    In addition to learning the skills obtained during a family medicine clinical experience, individuals who choose to participate in this rotation will also be exposed to the subspecialty of cosmetic dermatology and follow a more specialized curriculum geared towards correcting the appearance of skin.

  2. Family Medicine at Specialty Care Clinic in Chicago, IL 
    Medical trainees will become familiar with evaluating a variety of patient issues, such as abscess drainage or laceration sutures, joint injections and skin examination, prescribing changes in patient diets, and educating the patient on how to increase their health overall. 

  3. Family Medicine at Miami Beach Community Health Center in Miami, FL
    Visitors will have the opportunity to receive a letter of recommendation on Miami Beach Community Health Center letterhead, an ACGME Residency site.

OBGYN

Trainees that participate in these new clinical experiences in the OBGYN specialty will become familiar with treating and observing expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies, during childbirth, and into postpartum, performing breast and pelvic exams, and educating patients on preventative care. Please note these new programs are reserved for female trainees only.

  1. OBGYN with Clinical Assistant Professor, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL
    The physician focuses on gynecology, not obstetrics, and specializes in female sexual dysfunction, menopause management, fourth-trimester care, pelvic pain, and vulvar dermatologic skin conditions.

  2. OBGYN/Reproductive Endocrinology with Rush University Medical Center Professor near Chicago, IL 
    Medical trainees may inquire about two research studies and one clinical trial taking place within the clinic. You may elect to assist or focus on this area of the rotation.

GENERAL SURGERY

Become familiar with the benefits and risks of surgery, communicating procedures to patients and family members, and specific surgical skills such as knot tying and suturing. These general surgery rotations occur through clinical experiences, didactic and case-based teaching, and self-directed reading.

  1. Robotic Surgery at Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital in Simi Valley, California
    Learn about the da Vinci Xi Surgical System, used during minimally invasive surgical procedures. This robotic system gives enhanced dexterity and three-dimensional visualization during surgeries, allowing to perform smaller movements with extreme precision, all through tiny incisions eliminating the need for a large scar.

  2. General Surgery at Central Valley Bariatrics in Pasadena, California
    Medical trainees can expect to learn about advanced surgical techniques and procedures. Procedures performed may include Duodenal switch open and lap, revision of weight-loss surgical procedures, robotic laparoscopic, and general surgical procedures.

PSYCHIATRY

This new clinical experience is available both in-person and virtually. Visitors will learn about the medical specialty of psychiatry as it is concerned with diagnosing and treating mental illnesses, such as depression, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and schizophrenia. This physician is board certified in Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychology and sees patients ranging from age four to 100.

  1. In-Person Experience! Psychiatry with Attending Physician, Swedish Hospital near Chicago, IL
    With this rotation you can enjoy training both in a clinic and hospital. Per hospital policy, inpatient exposure will be strictly shadowing. All hands-on activities will take place in the doctor’s private clinic. Inpatient exposure is dependent on patient load. Please discuss approximate inpatient hours with the doctor upon arrival.

  2. Virtual Experience! Psychiatry with Attending Physician, Swedish Hospital
    Participants observe virtual patient consultations in real-time with the opportunity to record patient histories and conduct physical examinations under the supervision of the precepting physician. Skills necessary to telehealth, like troubleshooting technology issues and best patient communication practices, are included in the curriculum.

OTHER SPECIALTIES

  1. Pediatrics at Specialty Care Clinic in Exton, Pennsylvania
    The physician is board certified in internal medicine, sleep medicine, and critical care. This clinic is unique as it is run in a concierge-styleVisitors will be exposed to this rare clinical format while maintaining paper records and offering a personal patient care experience.

  2. Cardiology at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago, IL
    Through this new clinical experience, medical trainees will learn about the medical specialty of cardiology as it is concerned with diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the cardiovascular system. This medical group is located onsite at Holy Cross Hospital Chicago. You can expect to serve the diverse surrounding community on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

  3. Otolaryngology at Head and Neck Institute, Mount Sinai Union Square in New York City, NY
    Visitors can expect to learn about the basic medical knowledge of primary care otolaryngology and common head and neck disorders.

  4. Neurology at Neurology Clinics of Nevada in Las Vegas
    Medical trainees will work with a doctor of osteopathic medicine and board-certified in neurology. Medical trainees will learn the basics of neurological diseases, which include stroke, seizures, Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

  5. Internal Medicine/Endocrinology with Chief of Endocrinology, Northwell Hospital in Plainview, New York
    The doctor specializes in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. Medical trainees will become familiar with thyroid exams, insulin injections, and interpreting glucose logs. Interact with other medical professionals while participating in discussions and lectures. Reading materials will be provided to medical trainees.
