Each year, on October 10, we come together to celebrate World Mental Health Day. Mental health issues can manipulate an individual’s mood and behavior. This is a health issue that does not discriminate and can be found in any geographic region, culture, or socioeconomic group. It’s estimated that over 1 billion individuals worldwide struggle with a mental health disorder or some sort.

2020’s Mental Health Day Theme

This year, the United Nation’s goal is to prioritize investing in mental health. Investments don’t just come in the form of money; often, the most valuable investment is that of an individual’s time. In respect to this, the United Nations is hosting the Big Event, an online celebration regarding mental health. The event will feature speaking panels, presentations, and musical performances, bringing together noteworthy mental health advocates and celebrities with the goal to educate and inspire.

Everyone is invited to attend this virtual event, which will be broadcasted on Facebook, YouTube, and the UN’s on October 10, World Mental Health Day, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. CST.

Education As An Investment

If you cannot attend this event, you might consider celebrating this important day in another way. We encourage you to spend a few minutes educating yourself on mental health-related to physicians and healthcare professionals in specific. To facilitate your learning, we have curated a list of blog posts covering this topic, which you can explore below.

In educating ourselves on signs and stigmas of mental health among the general population and physicians, we can increase our awareness and acceptance and improve the support systems available for those struggling.
