Things have been busy at AMO! Over the past month, we’ve had countless new programs come available on the AMO marketplace. Don’t get us wrong, though–being able to expand our U.S. clinical experience programs is always an exciting time.

Below we take a look at some of the most popular new programs available, all of which are either offered virtually or located in New York or New Jersey (two of the IMG-friendliest states).

 

Virtual Internal Medicine with Program Director, TRI Internship Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center

A virtual program based in West New York, New Jersey, this program has academic and hospital affiliations, it qualifies for Book Now and Last Minute reservations, and it is great for groups of students or friends looking to rotate together!

As an education-focused experience, your week will be split into two parts. The first two sessions will be educational clinical sessions focused on reviewing and discussing topics of internal medicine. The third weekly session will rotate between an M&M case review and a journal club. This experience offers 20 hours per week, of which 10 will be real-time interaction with the preceptors and your peers, while 10 hours can be completed asynchronously by reading assigned case studies, reviews, articles, and more.

Upon completion of this rotation, you will also have the opportunity to earn two merit-based letters of recommendation for your Match application.

Internal Medicine near New York City with Associate Professor of Medicine, Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center Residency Program

An in-person rotation located just outside of New York City in Union City, New Jersey, this program is offered in Observership, Hands-On, and Pre-Med Shadowing rotations. It is also both hospital- and academic-affiliated!

Working alongside an internist, you will have the opportunity to learn the medical specialty of internal medicine as it is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases in adult patients. This experience also provides exposure to clinical skills, such as medical histories and physical exams, and gives you exposure to determining a broad range of disease states and working with diverse patient populations, mainly treating acutely ill patients.

Family Medicine in Brooklyn, NY with Associate Professor, Brooklyn Hospital Center

An in-person rotation in the heart of New York City’s Brooklyn borough, this program is available for Observership, Hands-On, and Pre-Med Shadowing clinical experiences.

In this rotation, you will become familiar with administering immunizations, providing primary care, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting lab tests and screenings, giving vision/hearing tests, and learning about women’s health, family planning, prenatal services, and nutrition. As a family medicine rotation, you can expect to work with patients of all ages.

This experience also gives you exposure to clinical skills related to preventative care, such as recording medical histories and physical exams.

Neurology near New York City with Core Faculty, Hackensack Meridian Health Palisades Medical Center Residency Program

Located just across the Lincoln Tunnel from New York City, in North Bergen, New Jersey, this in-person rotation is open for Observership, Hands-On, and Pre-Med Shadowing rotations. During this rotation, you will have the opportunity to earn about neurology and the treatment of complex neurological diseases while also gaining clinical skills such as recording patient histories and physical exams.

This experience will also give you experience with recognizing headache patterns; diagnostic procedures such as EEG, NURF; muscle responsivity testing; and the use of Botox injections for migraine headaches.

Cardiology near Queens, New York with Associate Professor, Long Island Jewish Medical Center

This in-person clinical experience is located in New York City’s borough of Queens and has both hospital and academic affiliations. It is open to Obersvership, Hands-On, and Pre-Med Shadowing rotations.

As a cardiology rotation, you will have the opportunity to learn about diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases of the cardiovascular system, which includes the heart and the blood vessels.

This experience provides exposure to clinical skills such as medical histories and physical exams. You will also gain skills related to treating and preventing issues of the cardiovascular system, such as interpreting echocardiograms in addition to evaluating chest x-rays and diagnostic reports.
