Are you an International Medical Graduate who will take part in the 2024 U.S. Residency Match? It’s time to start your application journey!

With just over a year until 2024 residency programs begin, the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) has just released program and application information for the 2024 application season.

Below, we dive into important dates for you to know and break down the application process for you.

ERAS 2024: Upcoming Dates

June 2023

As a 2024 applicant, you can now view program information through Residency Explorer. This tool lets you view program information and details of previous applicants who matched into these programs. The information on Residency Explorer makes it easy to determine the programs you may have a higher chance of matching into by comparing your qualifications and experience with past applicants.

Browsing Residency Explorer in early June can help you narrow down the list of residency programs you will apply to and help shape the rest of your application process.

June 28, 2023

On June 28, Residency Tokens will become available. This token allows you to register for the AAMC’s MyERAS site, where supporting documents like LoRs, transcripts, and more will be kept as part of your application.

As a graduate of an international medical school (Canada excluded), you can receive your Residency Token by visiting the ECFMG Support Services section of OASIS.

Once you have registered with MyERAS, you can begin uploading supporting documents.

September 6, 2023

Applicants can begin applying to their residency programs at 9 a.m. U.S. Eastern time.

September 15, 2023

On this day, applicants can register for the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). This is where you will be able to rank and view ranking results during and after the Match.

September 20, 2023

This is the day that the ECFMG emphasizes having supporting documents uploaded to your MyERAS account to ensure they can be shared with programs by September 27.

This is especially important for LoRs. If you have letter writers still completing your recommendations in early September, it is a good idea to reach out and ensure they will be able to upload their letters by September 20, 2023.

If you still need to earn an LoR (or two!) there is still time to do so through an AMO summer clinical experience. Reach out to an AMO Advisor at advisors@amopportunities.org and learn more about earning your LoR ahead of the 2024 Match.

September 27, 2023

Programs can begin accessing and reviewing applications. Any applications submitted after September 27, 2023, will be accessible by programs upon submission.

January 2024 and Beyond

While most of your application will be completed in 2023, the journey is not over.

For important dates in 2024, review the ECFMG timeline and be sure to follow AMO for more about the 2024 Match application process.
